Many of you probably don't care
about these two rivals but in a poor economy and dwindling auto
sales, these two are people's last chance at a new car.
Small, cheap cars are gaining popularity with new models coming
out from GM and perhaps even
Tata.
For now, the Hyundai Accent (Blue trim) is the cheapest car in
America. It competes against the Yaris and other small
competitors.

| For cheap cars, these two don't
look that cheap actually. They have friendly appearances with
large headlights and tiny grilles. They're like the automotive
equivalent of a baby. They can't do much but at least they're
cute. |

| The Yaris also comes in a 5-door
hatchback as well as the sedan version. The 3-door Accent is the
only hatchback style available but there is a sedan. I actually
like how the Yaris sedan looks which gets a slightly different
front fascia with horizontal headlights. They should've just
left the same front fascia on the hatchback models but I suppose
the vertical headlights better match the taller body. The Accent
front end pretty much stays the same as the sedan with a few
small variations. Hyundai actually threw in a crease on the side
for some visual candy but you can't polish a turd. |

 |
| The Accent actually gets a tiny
spoiler on the roof but is that really necessary? I can't
imagine an Accent driver hitting the track, or even going above
60 on the highway. It makes me wonder how much those little
tidbits cost and how that money could either be saved for the
customer, or invested into something else like a better engine,
handling, or interior. Still, Hyundai should be commended for
providing some niceties on the cheapest car in America. |

 |
| For the cheapest car you can get,
the Accent actually has a decent interior. You even get a
tachometer as well as a radio and some other goodies. Even
though its cheaper than the Yaris, the Accent's interior
actually looks better. Toyota should learn to stop putting the
instrument panel in the center of the dashboard. The vast amount
of plastic left in its void looks unfinished cheap. |
