The Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are currently the two leaders in the compact car segment. Like their bigger brothers, the Camry and Accord, these two have a dedicated fan base due to their practicality and renowned Toyota and Honda quality. The Corolla is the friendlier one while the Civic kicks it up a notch with a more distinctive design and the sporty Si trim.

The exterior was redesigned to resemble the Camry but doesn't pull off the look as well. The S and XRS trims add a lower lip which can make the front look more exciting but still falls short.

The Civic was refreshed recently with a new bumper and grille. Previously, the side air openings weren't there which made the Civic look like it had the mumps. It now looks better and more aerodynamic.
The Civic puts the side mirrors on the doors always looks better. For some reason the Civic coupe doesn't though. Speaking of which, when will there ever be a Corolla coupe?
Camry styling cues are all within the Corolla's design but isn't as well proportioned because of the shorter length and tall height. A black B-pillar would've looked better like on the Civic.
The Civic's tail lights can look like eyes with a license plate mouth. The Corolla however has two circle reflectors for pimples on the lower bumper. Neither design is particularly more appealing than the other and fall in line with their overall design themes.

The Corolla's interior is simple and functional. Nothing too exciting as everything is placed well and designed to the tastes of all buyers from young to old. The little dip in the gauge cluster housing is probably the only thing that's distasteful. Use of different colored plastics helps keep the interior from looking too drab and faux wood trim is available on the XLE. Other trims get silver finish plastic which is by far the best looking combination. The interior pictured is the base Corolla. Other trims will include better features.

Honda's new two-tiered dash layout has been getting rave reviews. From a functionality standpoint, it's a great innovation to the dashboard. The digital speedometer and other gauges are always in clear view making it easy to keep track on your speed (it's also easy for surrounding drivers to see it also). The rest of the design could have placed the vents in a better location such as the one next to the optional navigation which looks like it's in no man's land and the other smudged in between the instrument housing and center console.
