|
| Chevrolet and Ford's new compact sedans
have finally been unveiled and should be
out by next year. The Cobalt is now changing to the Cruze after a few
unsuccessful years. The Focus nameplate stays but the model
will now be nearly identical across the world making it a true world
car. Both new models are good news as they look better in every
way compared to the current generations. |

|
 |
| Both Chevy and Ford are
incorporating their corporate faces onto the Cruze and Focus. The
two-tier grille of the Cruze is similar to other models such as the
Chevrolet Malibu,
Equinox and others while the Focus's lower
trapezoidal grille is similar to the
Ford Taurus,
Fusion, etc.
although with a twist. The grille gets split into three sections
and is by far the largest among Ford vehicles. Both cars feature new
upswept headlight designs which create a subtle but distinct look. The Cruze's are sharp and aggressive while the Focus's are more
fluid. Overall, both look tremendously better than the models
available now. |

 |
|
 |
| The Focus follows Ford's 'kinetic
design' theme which Ford says is to make the car look like
they're in motion even when standing still. Whatever the
reasoning, it looks fantastic on the Focus with a fluid side.
The sculpted front and rear fenders matched with a crease on the
doors combine for a dynamic look. It's definitely one of the
more eye-catching designs in the compact C-segment especially in
comparison to the Cruze's rather plain side. |
|
|
 |
|
 |
| The Cruze's arching roofline
flows nicely into the rear with sloping C-pillars but the Focus
looks more stunning. The design is reminiscent of the European
Ford Mondeo which is a beautiful car and its design cues fit
well on the Focus. Both the Focus and the Cruze get short rear
decks creating a sportier appearance but the Cruze's tail lights
don't match the rest of the car's good looks. They're a bit too
large and the circular designs in the center look more
cartoonish than sleek. The Focus's tail lights are better
integrated in the rear by flowing into the creased fenders. The
trunk lid is chiseled beautifully which gives it more character
than the flat trunk of the Cruze. |

If you look long enough, both
interiors have striking similarities, especially the center
stacks. The Focus gets a more dynamic look but the design is
similar with information screens placed high in between the
vents and on top of the controls. The Focus gets an available
8-inch touchscreen display that uses Ford's new MyFord system
and the next generation SYNC. The voice control system is paired
with Bluetooth, satellite navigation, etc. but the new
semi-automatic parallel parking system is the most intriguing
new feature usually not seen in cars at this price range.
Chevy says the Cruze's interior is inspired by the Chevrolet
Corvette but I don't see the similarity. The Cruze gets fitted
with OnStar along with Bluetooth, USB connectivity, XM Satellite
Radio, and navigation. Unfortunately, there's no new standout
features though like the Focus is including. |
